ABOUT US

The Philippine Dyslexia Foundation, Inc. or PDF was established to support and empower people with dyslexia in the country. In 1998, Adrian S. Cristobal, Jr., Roland L. Macasaet, Arnel R. Manganti, Wynna Marie A. Medina, and Nancy A. Padilla founded the organization. These founding officers were parents of children with dyslexia and learning disability. Its membership include dyslexic children and youth, their parents and other relatives, classroom teachers, school administrators, medical doctors, psychologists, therapists, school counselors, and general supporters of the cause.

PDF endeavors to be the best source of information on dyslexia and related learning disorders and is active in empowering individuals with dyslexia and in promoting public awareness. In July 1998, PDF released the maiden issue of its newsletter. Pathway is published to raise public awareness, disseminate information, and share relevant updates and teaching and learning strategies for teachers, parents, and students.

To achieve its goal of providing quality education for children and adults with dyslexia, PDF provided support and partners with Wordlab School, Inc., a pioneering institution that provides regular basic education and specialized reading intervention for children with dyslexia.

PDF also collaborates with other institutions such as the College of Education of the University of the Philippines and the Read-Ability Literacy Improvement Center to achieve its goal of providing quality education for children and adults with dyslexia through various teacher training seminars.

In October 2007, PDF and Wordlab School spearhead the Pan-Asian Learning Disabilities Conference, the first of its kind in the country and in the region. Researches, lesson demonstrations, personal testimonies, and current issues were shared and taken up. This conference was attended by teachers, parents, students, therapists, and medical professionals from all over the Philippines, and from Singapore, China, Canada, Middle East,a dn the United Kingdom. In May 2008, it sponsored the Dyslexia Screening Seminar with the Reading Department of the UP College of Education.

PDF strives for the formation of public and educational policies so that early diagnosis, remediation, and accommodation may be given to school-age children all over the country. It continues to work on endeavors with Wordlab School, Inc and other organizations to achieve its vision of ensuring that every Filipino dyslexic is enabled to achieve his or her learning potential.
